How to Play
New Hire Question Cards is a curated question generator designed specifically for onboarding contexts. Unlike generic icebreaker questions, every prompt has been selected to be safe, workplace-appropriate, and genuinely useful for new employees. Questions range from practical ('What is one tool you want to understand better?') to reflective ('What is one small thing that helped you today?') to forward-looking ('What is one question you are still holding?'). The tool generates one random question at a time, and new hires can answer verbally, type a response, or simply think about it.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Click 'Next Card' to generate a random onboarding question.
Read the question aloud. Give everyone a moment to think.
People can answer verbally, type in chat, or reflect silently — all are valid.
If the question does not resonate, click 'Next Card' for a different one.
For solo reflection, new hires can use the tool on their own to journal or prepare for check-ins.
Use 2-3 questions per session. Do not rush through too many at once.
Tips for Hosts
Let questions breathe. A single good question with a minute of silence for thinking is more valuable than five rapid-fire questions.
Never put anyone on the spot. 'Would anyone like to share?' is better than calling on someone.
For one-on-one onboarding, use the questions as conversation starters during coffee chats.
The tool can be used solo. New hires can browse questions on their own to prepare thoughts for their next check-in.
Best Use Cases
First-day orientation: Use 2-3 question cards to break the ice without awkward small talk.
Manager one-on-ones: A structured alternative to 'How is it going?'
Remote onboarding: Paste a question in the team chat each morning during the first week.
Self-reflection: New hires can use the tool independently to process their onboarding experience.
